Come on, anyone who has been awarded the American Global Award for Peace and the title of "International Humanitarian of the Year" must be a good bloke, mustn't he?

See: List of honours received by Sepp Blatter.

If we were serious about protesting we would have just spoiled our votes rather than vote for the underdog, then cry sour grapes when he didn't win. Plays into blatter hands in the bad losers stakes

Watch them try to get major sponsors when Europe and South America withdraw.

Have you seen the coverage the anc gets - channel 5 and itv 2 last time

Coke and Big Macs sell in africa and Asia too. The sponsors are going nowhere. Europe needs Putins oil. Ukraine is just a pesky issue that USA is meddling in, no one in Europe except for the poodle, really gives a damn how Putin deals with the far right thugs in his neighbouring land.

They might sell but not at the same quantities as obese Europe and the states.
I agree with you on Russia!!!

As for Michel Platini his vomit inducing bonhomie hand shake with Blatter after he won the election should tell you where UEFA stands about any boycott.

England will have to go it alone and the business interests wont allow it. Too many rich Brits will lose too much money. The tories need their party funds. All Cameron and Obama can hope for is a major escalation of hostilities in Ukraine. Putin is happy with the current low level fighting, as he is winning. No need for all out ISiS type escalation. If anything happens in next 2 years it will be CIA playing dangerous games.

It will be interesting how much the Qatar World Cup makes for the home nation or will it be 1 big donation from the royal family

I think we know the answer.

I not sure I would want to host it tbh

If this is what happens in Brazil, just think what is likely to be the legacy in Qatar.

I was quite prepared for this to be a wind up, but no: Sepp Blatter to resign as Fifa president after 17 years in role.

    So what's changed from:

And why did he put FIFA the recent election? Something smells even more that usual.

What difference does this corruption make to English football?

We play the World cup somewhere different, anything else?

Be interesting to see if Qatar can hold on to 2022!! Too late to change Russia but with Blatter gone, all the corruption coming out and over a 1000 deaths in Qatar already on constructing the stadiums who know what may happen!

As he is resigning rather than being sacked he can choose his replacement. Who wants to bet that the one who promises to bury anything incriminating gets the job.

Uk is not interested in scuppering the Qatar event. We are dependent on their gas.

Cameron wants to scupper the 2018 Russian event and this resignation by Blatter ruins that. They must be cursing this in private. They now have to get something else on Putin, maybe escalation of Ukraine will indeed happen now.

But Blatter will have come out of it comfortably off (ahem!) and perhaps with a deal that he is immune to any further investigations. FIFA have done it before with Blatter's predecessor.

They still have the Far and Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, the Caribbean all willing to dip their buckets into the river of money that is FIFA. Even Europe is divided in its stance against Blatter.

FIFA is beyond cleaning up and it's time they were kicked out of football. Nobody has the power though. The world's FAs are weak and afraid. If England stepped outside of FIFA they'd be alienated from major tournaments. The big players wouldn't sign for the top 4 or 5 and Sky would be hugely miffed. I'd love to see the overpaid wastes of space bugger off back to where they came from and leave our game in the realms of affordability which it now currently is leaving. Every pound paid to a Carlos Kickaball is a pound lost to the game. Agents as well. I've supported my team for over 50 years and I wouldn't care if I didn't see one more overpriced failure wear the shirt.

Money drives the game now and where there's money, there's corruption. FIFA have taken it to a new level and there's not an FA or a fan that doesn't know it.

Well not exactly resigning, sticking around until next December or March to 'restructure' or bury the evidence and organise a smear campaign against the U.S. and any other allies and help smooth the way for new president elect to continue FIFA's 'good' work.
Lets hope further revelations make him go immediately. Slimeball.

ABC are reporting that a source close to the Feds is saying that they are conducting the FIFA investigation in an old school style similar to a New York racketeering case. Trying to get people in the organisation to inform on those higher up. No wonder the Godfather Blatter is getting jumpy.

I think after 17 years in charge he's stashed plenty enough away by now - allegedly!

He's clearly had pressure put on him, especially when you consider his speeches and attitude after the election. Good riddance to the man, one of the most arrogant, obnoxious and toxic men in world sport. I hope the FBI have him in their sights.

    Is it big enough? WikiLink:

The complex includes a fitness centre, a meditation room, geographically themed parks and a full-size international football pitch.

The main building has only two upper levels, resulting in two thirds of the headquarters lying underground. "Places where people make decisions should only contain indirect light," said Sepp Blatter, "because the light should come from the people themselves who are assembled there."

I think when he said "light" he actually meant to say "payments".

If you read it again with the correction you will see it makes much more sense.

Q: The Fifa president, secretary general and communications director are all travelling in a car. Who's driving?

    A: The police.

This joke was brought to you courtesy of the (now ex) FIFA communications director Walter De Gregorio - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33099881

Further 'individuals and entities' could be charged:

' "The scope of our investigation is not limited, and we are following the evidence where it leads," said Lynch.'

    "Outrageous"

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has reportedly said it is "outrageous" he is being "condemned without there being any evidence for wrongdoing". Link.

Edit: Update: Sepp Blatter, Michel Platini & Jerome Valcke suspended.

    Fifa official 'awarded themselves £55m'

BBCLink Fifa: Sepp Blatter, Jerome Valcke & Markus Kattner 'awarded themselves £55m':

"Former high-ranking Fifa officials Sepp Blatter, Jerome Valcke and Markus Kattner awarded themselves pay rises and bonuses worth $80m (£55m) over five years, say Fifa lawyers."
