This little old thing. Currently undergoing a minor revamp.
This little old thing. Currently undergoing a minor revamp.
I have a Yam FJ1200, Yam 350LC, Triton, 2x Yam TTR 250's, Kawasaki MC1 which is probably to many as I want to add some much earlier bikes to the hoard. I'd love one from each decade actually but my God some of the prices they command are eye watering.
I like trying all the latest bikes, so ive been in Spyderclub for a few years, its like a bike hire club (amongst other benefits) and I usually do 3-4 long weekends on all the latest bikes I fancy riding. Its also handy if you need a big tourer for a trip, you have access to one from their fleet
Otherwise I currently have in the garage;
90% restored 1989 Kawasaki ZXR750h1, a project bike when I was off long term sick, it rides great for 25 years old:
For rides out with the missus and general cruising about, a 2012 Harley V-Rod VRSCF :
And last year I treated myself to an MV that I always fancied before they changed away from the colour I wanted: A Brutale 1090RR

Thanks very much for nice comments
Yeah the tigress is an oddity alright, however it was shed and buried and in one for 10 yards and a freebie as a friend of family was going to throw it away when knocking the shed down!
There are parts available - have to cross reference some stuff but there is an owners forum, site - trouble is BSA/Triumph garages just want to do goldies and Bonnies and the scooter garages just want to do Vespas and lambrettas so getting it roadworthy will be a bit of a mission..

That doesn't look the most ideal bike for being a passenger on.
I don't want to gatecrash the bike thread stef it should be in the drive thread but just a quick one if no one minds
1963 Mk 1 Its a Crayford convertible (only 15 to 20 built and half that left) been in family 43 years... Will be in practical classics sometime ..
Out of shot is 62 A40 & 57 minor too...
Superb Loz, thanks for that.
(And sorry to all for the little diversion off-topic)
I have a Hornet9 and an Aprilia Tuono...similarish bikes...love them both...
Will see if I can dig out a few pics.
I,m 6ft 4 and weigh a far old amount with leathers + 10 st woman + panniers and top box for touring I found that the skyhook was working on its limits and constantly adjusting itself which made it very uncomfortable for the woman. spent 12 months trying to sort it, better spring, professional set up etc etc so in the end gave up. (Full story over at the Ducatiforum.co.uk - same name)
Love the bike and the manual suspension is great right out of the box
Does that have the girder type front suspension? I have a soft spot for beemers, very nice bike!
This image from some time ago
I've had it since 2005.
Never broken down, never failed an MOT.
Famous last words : )
The going to work and country lanes bike (mostly the former recently...):
[QUOTE=tixntox;3874308]Been rebuilding this over the winter:-
Just about finished (of sorts) but they are never really "finished" are they?
Looks like you have done a pretty good job there. Though I don't think it should have two different logo's on the tank. I think the RS had the wings and the Superdream had Honda written in a stripe.
I still have my 1994 Mk1 (900) Speed Triple, one of the very first ones with 6th gear blanked off.
Known the bike from new, it has been mine since 1998.
But other things mean I do not use it enough, it still has less than 20k miles on it.
And I have no photos of it whatsoever, other than this watch on the tank
Dave
When I was young I longed for a bike, but they weren't really compatible with my professional existence. Very sad. But I did have the pleasure of going pillion on my brothers ZZR down the A1 at 130, a memory that shows no sign of going blunt ;)
Another happy memory was learning about two strokes going pillion on a friends RD350. Very educational
Had a quick look at their website in the light of this mention.I like trying all the latest bikes, so ive been in Spyderclub for a few years
Would you recommend it?
Presumably, yes?
Anything to bear in mind?
Tempted...
Yes, I would miss not being in the club.
I can go in the online booking system and if I fancy a Panigale next weekend, just a few mouse clicks and its delivered on Friday, fueled, insured, clean, ready to go. I think standard membership is about £110 a month now. Its a points system, obviously mid week hire is cheaper than Fri-mon. You can get 3-4 long weekends in per year on tier 1/2 bikes. No real mileage limits as such, I generally manage 250-300 depending how comfy the bike is ;) Ive heard of others doing that many miles in a day before though. You just leave the tank as you find it, usually 3/4 full ish.
I will be doing a weekend break with the club later this year. There is always something going on. They offer bike related benefits/services too e.g. in December they picked up one of my bikes, bring back in Jan, you can have it serviced, MOT, tyres, ACF50 valet, all for less than a main dealer service...very convenient if you are time poor and prefer riding in your free time compared to servicing/cleaning
so yeah, recommended ...maybe try it for a year, plan 3-4 long weekends on your dream bikes and see how it goes ...thats what I did the first year :)
Cheers, it has a good combination of presence, noise, blackness, character and a fat back wheel, certainly.
No use at all at slow speed stuff, due to the hunched over the "clip-on" bars, and being naked it is not too comfy at high speed or long distance either. But still great, despite its faults.
It replaced a 1988 Ducati 750 Sport in the garage when I bought it, and I know where that bike is too. I have a hankering to buy it back........
Dave
I had my bars raised over the headlight and it was still painful, in the end my knees couldn't take it, I was crying when I sold it. I never was attached to one bike so much.
It was also on the Triumph Centenary parade with me on it, I also passed my advanced test on it.
Go anywhere comfy, and so capable! Hauls the madam and I round Bonnie Scotland every year with all our hillwalking kit, and space for the odd wee bottle for the return journey!
Kept a couple of Ducatis in check last year for our reunion return to the Bol d'Or, after 15 years since the last 24hr bike race - glorious!

There are some seriously nice bikes here.
At the moment I've merely got an R1200R Sport
R80RT Mono
and R65
I deeply regret the departure of my Hayabusa
and wish I could have held on to this for longer than I did
Some nice beemers there Gyp, love that R65!
