Looking for a "vintage" style Chrono with modern WR. Suggestions please.

I am looking for a trad style, but relatively modern chronograph. By that I mean with lugs. No silly materials. Trad.

Either 2 register (3 and 9, not up-down) or compax.
    I would like a bezel.
    I like reasonable lume
And sufficient WR to allow a swim.

And this is on a budget. Less than £1k. I plan to wear it to do things, so do not want to feel rprecious about it.

So far, I have found a few options, unfortunately they are rare and hard to get hold of. Typical

One is the original Junghans Bund Re-Issue of about 2000. A limited edition of 3850 (not very limited at all) it was a very faithful reproduction of the Junghans Bund, but in stainless.

Manual, but that is not a problem.
These crop up at wildly differing prices. Some people even want €2000 for one, which is stupid, because for that you can buy the orignal bund example. I cannot currently find one for sale, and believe me, I have looked.

Next, the Tactico Type RE, (like Raj got this last week) a special edition done for the Relojes Especiales forum in Spain. Very small numbers but quite stylish and with a proper 200m WR. It is auto as well so relatively thick, which detracts from the traditional look.

These also pop up, but again are sometimes subject to optimistic owners, in terms of price. On the Iberian peninsula these are sold for under €1000.

So far, 2 rare possibilities that I like a lot, and can't find for the right money.

Another more off-the-wall possibility is to get a Breitling Callisto. These can readily be found for under £1k (even one for under £500 from Italy) , but are a little more challengingly styled with Breitling over-riders on the bezel, fluted pushers and crown, and unnecessary use of gold.

This is about as clean as they get. They do have the advantage of the Lemania 1873 movement. Always good.

There are a few others without bezels. Like the Hamilton Pioneer chrono, which looks great apart from the absence of bezel (which to be fair, this watch shouldn't have). These are being sold new (or almost) for under £800, which is very good value, I think. 100m WR too.

    Others without bezels include

The early Heuer Carrera re-edition with the 1873 movement.
    The Eterna Heritage Pulsometer.
    Longines Heritage 1951 chrono.

All suffer a bit from very low WR (30m is pretty poor given the state of technology).

Zeno are currently doing a Lemania 1873-powered (movement signed Paul Picot) chrono which looks nice and is slightly above budget), but again, no bezel.

But I would alo appreciate a few suggestions from you guys too.

In short, what have you spotted? It must be

    • Chronograph, Manual or Auto.
    • 2 register (3,9) or Compax.
    • With a bezel.
    • Vintage style.
    • Modern WR
    • Under a grand

Whilst it has up and down registers, this set me back £700 a couple of years ago. The Sinn 155 was a limited edition of 300 but they do pop up on chrono 24 every now and again. It has the same case as the original bund chrono but powered by a 7750.

Barring the bezel and the fact it is 4 x over budget, yes it would

Don't get bogged down in details Dave...

I suppose the Hamilton PanEurope (?) chrono is too 70's in terms of case shape?

There are a couple of Poljot 3133 models with bezels but I'd have no idea where you'd source them.

Isn't there a reissue homage thing of the old Heuer bund?

Longine Heritage diver with the red bezel. They've even gone for a vintage style metal bracelet but still has 300wr. A really nice piece. Sorry would post pictures but can't.

That Longines is a good call, but again a little over budget. I am just a little confused with 3 totally different sub-dials. One small, one large, one black. Seems odd.
Pan Europe, again good call, but I am thinking 60's style trad, not 70's with big fat cases.
Poljot - sorry, yet to see one I like, they all look like they have been put together with Soviet tractor aesthetics.

If your budget can stretch then the Sinn 103 klassik fits the bill. It's rare to find used but not impossible by a long stretch.

Good call, I hadn't known of that one, although I had considered the Jubilaum chrono from Sinn (but no bezel).

If the "homage factor" isn't a problem, how about Roland Kemmner's 1550 chrono?

How about the 3 register Tutima 'Grand Classic', looks good on leather too.

I don't think it meets WR criteria either.

    Thanks for the ideas gents
Skindiver chrono is a good call, fits the bill perfectly.
The Tutima is nice, but not 2 register, although the 1941 LE one that just sold on SC is a real contender.

Tend to agree, but what if Soviet tractor engine is ticking in German Fliegerchronograph design?

A used Hanhart 1939 Re-Issue or Pioneer should be close to your price point. The WR is 100m.

Beautiful watch. I had one a few years ago and totally regret getting rid.

Funnily enough, it is this version that does it more for me

(pic taken from recent SC thread by Onelasttime)

They also did a Lemania 5100 version, but it looked all wrong to me. 2 register just looks so, right.

As referred to in post 1, the Eterna Pulsometer is a possible in this search, and I have been looking out for one, to see what is around.

For those that do not know, this is what they look like

All very nice and classic looking, nice symmetrical dial etc etc. But what is with the lume? Bright green on the dial, near white on the hands. It just doesn't look right.

A small amount of ham-fisted photoshop later, and

Matching, at least, and a bit vintaged to go with the design.

    Isn't that a lot better?

If I get one, I may have to get it re-lumed..............

You're dead right, I am. The Eterna is a real contender though, and readily available, unlike almost every other alternative.........

I know, 2 that came up on Watchrecon, one of which sold, the other not.
Also one in the UK (unrelated)
I gather some US dealers dumped remaining stock at rock bottom prices. $800 for this is pretty silly as a price really.
Maybe they don't like the lume either.
