I think the navitimer looks excellent onthe strap you have there. i really like the B&R, took me a minute to figure it out but i really like how interesting it looks.
During a recent beer and chat with a fellow forum member, it was suggested that now would be a good time to post a sotc, as my collection is as large as it's going to get, and for the first time in quite a while I have nothing on my wanted list (although that may have changed by time I finish this post).
My watch buying journey, in common with a lot of others on here, has been an eclectic affair. I started off with vintage pieces, and then meandered in to more modern stuff, then veered off to the left as far as the likes of Linde Werdelin and Romain Jerome, came back to more middle of the road, through a limited edition faze, and have now returned to pretty much all vintage again. To get from then to now has encompassed somewhere in the region of eighty watches over a seven year period which, now I have seen it written down, looks a ridiculous number.
Having got to this point, I have decided (quite arbitrarily) that my collection is, at 17 watches, too large for my needs. I also find myself getting a bit bored with it all, and this sort of coincides with a possible opportunity to get into vintage motorbikes (this is undoubtedly going to please the wife no end !).
So, the bottom line is... I want to reduce the collection down to 7. This seems a sensible number, and obviously allows me to wear a different watch each day of the week (should I wish to...I bet I never do).
I have sort of reached a decision on six that I think should probably make the cut, but I change my mind on the seventh about every five minutes.
These are all of my watches, in (apart from the first one) no particular order.
Omega Speedmaster 105.003-65 (Ed White). This is first as it started me off on this hobby. It was my dad's watch and, until recently I hadn't known that this watch actually caused my mum and dad to split up, albeit briefly. At the time, early 1966, they were living in a rented bed-sit, and saving for something better. Then my dad suddenly rocked up with the Speedy on his wrist, having blown the equivalent of over a months wages on it. Cue a big 'commitment' row, resulting in my mum moving back to her parents for a couple of weeks...
Heuer Silverstone Fume...
Tudor Snowflake (blue)...
Heuer Camaro 7220 (Val 72). Not a great photo, but I have lent it to a mate at the moment so can't take another one...
Squale Tiger (1970's NOS)...
Omega X33 Gen 2 ...
Breitling 806 Navitimer...
Fortis Stratoliner West in Space (Lemania 5100). Limited edition of 200...
Omega Megaquartz 2400 Stardust...
Breitling B-1 UTC (but photographed on leather)...
Panerai Luminor Submersible Pam199. Limited edition of 500...
Rolex Seadweller 1665 Great White...
Tudor 29160 Big Block...
Omega Seamaster 300 165.024...
Heuer Night Diver 980.032...
Omega Constellation Pie-Pan 168.010...
Bell & Ross BR03 Red Radar (42mm limited edition of 250)...
And that's the lot.
I currently have 6 of my final 7 berths filled as follows:
Tudor Snowflake
Omega Speedmaster
Rolex Seadweller
Tudor Big Block
Breitling Navitimer
Omega Seamaster 300.
Every other watch has, in my mind, a reason for keeping it. I'm currently leaning towards the Heuer Night Diver for the last slot, which may surprise some. But it is a great pick up and go watch, and very cool. But then the Stardust...and the Pie Pan..and...
So not the most unusual collection, and certainly not the most uncommon question, but which of the above watches would you put in slot 7?
Thanks for looking.

That Stardust is a beauty.
That 806 should be No.7. If not, I'll buy it!
What a great collection!
What's the case size on the pie pan? Looks like a larger one. And first dibs if you ever want to move it on! :)
Can't help with your decision but you have impeccable taste.
Both great watches, but with the Navitimer and the Speedmaster already in there, do I need 3 black-dialled Chrono's in a collection of 7? Should the Camaro be in instead of the 806?
The Pie pan doesn't have that issue but... I love owning the Pie pan, and looking at it, but rarely seem to wear it.
Keep the Megaquartz Stardust. It's fun, it's very different and very cool. Out of the others it's the best in it's class. Good luck actually doing it though!
The Silverstone is a strong contender for shape and colour.
Great watches that Seamaster is a cracker

Well I don't think the Camaro should go in. It could then come my way.
I'd say keep the silverstone or the Pam.
I would remove the Tudor Snowflake, and ADD:
- Breitling Navitimer 806
That's a great collection, keep the Camaro
Nice and varied collection. I don't want to like the Fortis at all but kind of do.
I'm not sure you need the pie pan but it would be the 7th for me even if I hardly wore it (don't we all have a watch we rarely wear but like owning?). I don't feel the need to have a variety of shapes, sizes etc but functionality is important and the Omega is a watch that would make the wearer feel they've stepped back in time to halcyon days.
I'd happily get in line if you decide otherwise :).
I'd say aesthetically the Navitimer is the pick of the bunch for me. The pie pan is a close second though.
You've definitely picked the best 6. For the remaining one I'd add the Navitimer 806...

Just kidding. It would be the Fortis in the final slot for me. It's a fun watch
Omega Pie-pan's the one I find really appealing. I`ve got the same watch in my drawer with a black dial awaiting restoration for my own collection. Just worked on a couple of 60s Omegas (Seamaster Deville and a Constellation) and it's easy to overlook just how nice they are. Totally at odds with the modern trend for big thick cases, but these slim designs really does look 'right' on the wrist.
As for the rest, the Rolex, the Tudor and Seamaster 300 would be keepers for me.......I could cheerfully let the rest go!

Interestingly a very similar selection to my "reduced to 8" collection.
My extra 2 include a pie pan constellation and an omega f300 - so I think your 7th should be slightly dressier - so either the pie pan or the mega quartz.
Enjoy your motorbikes!
I would be keeping the Silverstone no question. In fact no you can let that one go, because I want it ;)
If it helps with your decision I'd be interested in the Fortis. You can PM a price! ;)
Very nice indeed, Seamaster and Snowflake are my particular favourites.
Unless you really want a dressier watch (pie pan) I'd keep the Constellation or the Panerai as they are completely different style in my eyes from any of the rest.
The Tudor Snowflake and Navitimer are lovely, great collection and a hard time to choose between them!
What an amazing collection! I am a bit jealous..
Well, for me it would have to be the fortis... Such a funky, completely different piece!

Some absolute beauties. Was your dad in engineering or a motor sports enthusiast? just wondering about what was a very very good decision on the Speedmaster. I sort of imagined a lot of purchases based on round faced dress watches like the pie-pan back in the 60's and Subs and Speedmasters being much more niche.
Have to say definitely one of the best SOTC's I've seen on here. I'd have every one of them
Not sure on the 7th either but for sure 100% agree with your first 6 - cracking!
I'd go stardust for the 6th.
Cracking collection!
I'd keep the pie pan. Firstly because it's your only dress watch, and a collection of 7 should have at least one. Secondly, because it's the best of the bunch IMO.
Some very nice watches in there! Ed White or Navitimer do it for me. Not sure about the B and R but thats just my opinion.
A tough collection to whittle down, like the story on your folks, not great for them at the time but the want for whatever it is can have a big impact sometimes. Lovely Ed White.
Never lent one out so for that the Camaro would go, sounds like you favour the Night Diver for the last slot, maybe keep that & the Pie-Pan for eight and sleep on it.
It does take all sorts, of those the top of my list would be the Fortis. If it doesn't make the cut...
Another vote here for keeping the Constellation, for reasons that have been well stated by others already.
Maybe you could give it a trial period wherein you consciously try to wear it more and see how you feel about it then?
I'd keep either the Camaro or the Silverstone*, but I'm a Heuer fanboy. Barring that, chuck everything except your six keepers and add something with a Lemania 5100.
*today, I'd say the Camaro, but I could easily flip flop on that and say the Silverstone tomorrow.
I'd add the pie pan, and the stardust, and that weird b&r,
This is possibly why I have 20 watches not the 10 I always said was my max!
ktmog6uk
marchingontogether!
Question is Howard, why stop at 7 ;) - You know my thoughts.
If you're settled on 7, then my choice would be either the Silverstone or Stardust as either will add something different to the set. Although I predict you're going to convince yourself for the need for a beater and end up with 8, so out of the squale and the night diver and keep the Heuer.
Enjoy the Cull
Aaron
For me number seven would be the Silverstone or for a bit of fun the Fortis, overall very nice collection indeed.
Mate, 7 was a starting point I thought would be easy to achieve, but clearly not.
But they're only watches at the end of the day, and the ambition is still as discussed, hopefully, but that might be a way off. Fancy less watches and a bike in the interim though.
The Heuer definitely wins over the Squale, as nice as it is.
Very nice tasteful collection that!
