Cool Junghans Max Bill Automatic - First 'proper' watch / First post

Purchased a Junghans Max Bill Automatic a couple of weeks ago and cannot stop looking at it. I was drawn to this as I have wanted a 'bauhaus' style watch for some time and really like the curved dome top it has.

This is my first nice watch purchase after owning a Tissot chronograph for the last 8 years that was a graduation present from my parents that has now sadly broken.

The way the second hand sweeps on the Junghans is hypnotic and I have had a number of compliments already after just a few days.

It does also seem to stand out as it is not too common, unlike the Rolex Submariner, although that is also a beautiful watch that I would like to own someday soon.

Thank you - debating whether to change the strap but struggling with what style.

    Any recommendations?

Try the Junghans mesh. Very nice watch indeed. I would like that particular Max Bill.

I have looked at that but not sure how it would look with the plain white dial - will have to try find a picture.

Thinking that an exotic strap might be a bit much due to the design.

Stunning, I'd keep it on the leather.

Lovely watch indeed. A nice dark brown Cordovan strap would look good imho.

    Enjoy it!

Lovely watch. I think with that dial you can be quite bold with the texture, colour or even both on a strap. Perhaps a lizard or ostrich grain....

An excellent choice! For the strap size you need to measure between the lugs or visit Junghans website. I found somewhere online as 20mm but doublecheck.

    I like it.
I have the black dialled version.
I wear mine on a vintage rubber Swiss Tropic basket weave strap.

    The lug size is 20mm

Great choice, and somewhat eccentric. I thought these were only worn by architects.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

    Very nice.

As has already been suggested, the mesh is a good choice.

Very nice, nearly got one a few months ago, but now I have my heart set on the similar style Nomos Metro.

If I had it I would stick it on the mesh or a cordovan strap.

The Nomos is a very nice watch. A little busy and much more expensive for me but still a classic!

What a delightful wristwatch. A while back me and Mrs Analogue visited the Bauhaus Museum in Berlin and saw some splendid art and design. As is our wont, on the way out we visited the museum shop. I saw some similar watches, but alas, I did not get one. I wish I had. Looks like a 'proper' watch to me. Then, again, all watches are 'proper' watches. Analogue, digital, cheap or expensive. They are watches, and proper, to me at least.

I left the Bauhaus museum shop with an orange plastic-cased pencil and my wife got something or other. The Max Bill is really something. Classical. Nice choice.

The strap is an unbranded one from SecTime, and was just ten quid. Here's the only wrist shot I've got. Heaven knows what I did to the colours, but you get the idea

Somewhere online I saw someone who had put their Max Bill on a *mustard* strap (what pattern, I forget) and that made me think it could probably take any strong colour. It definitely brings out one side of the watch rather than the other, but for me that's okay. I felt the contrast stitching was important, as it would emphasise the neat nimble black-on-white detail of the dial. As well as adding a casual note to balance the Croc print.

On me the 38mm case isn't at all small, so the gently padded strap balances it nicely. For bigger wrists, a thinner smoother strap I guess would feel more natural? (But maybe I just really like Croc print at the moment...)

Saw on of these on a mesh in Selfridges looks lovely. I've suddenly got thoughts of Quatermass. Certainly got that verve of science
