Thread: What do you drive?

  1. #3801
Finally decided to bite the bullet and get this sorted after leaving it to gather dust for too long.

Looks ok with all the dust power washed off it, but a lot of work to be carried out in the next few weeks.

CF tipped sports exhaust? A friend of mine has just ordered a 440i with it, he sent me a video of the demo car he had. Sounds lovely!

After ages of looking I finally found a mint MX5 mk1. In this condition these are getting quite rare now. Just had new coilovers, exhaust and a few other bits fitted along with 4 yoko's and the thing just grips and grips. Not the fastest machine around but as a weekend toy it takes some beatingdaily driver is an i3 which could not be more different in just about every way.

It's early days but I think ~340 as standard is more than enough, in the wet it's pretty useless anyway.

Scottish hills and sprints. I do it as much for the banter and craic in the paddock as the driving itself. Great bunch of folk. Just back from a weekend sprinting in the pouring rain and can report that the weather did little to dampen the enthusiasm. If you haven't tried a hillclimb give it a go.

Will you be at Doune in a few weeks? I try to get along to see a friend compete but he blew his engine at Ingliston a coupe of weeks ago.

Not looking likely. The SR3 is really for Stiglet jr. and he is NOT getting to take it up Doune... my wallet can't stand a Doune "mishap"

I had my first drive of my recently purchased Merlyn this weekend at the Golspie Sprint in the pouring rain. The ratios were all wrong but it was still a hoot to drive.

I've never had a Jag so I picked this one up yesterday. I know some people say it's not a "real" Jag but it drives lovely, it's comfortable and all-wheel-drive. Best of all, it's low miles, full main dealer service history and it was cheap.

After 9 years with a Mazda RX-8, I finally bowed to my need for something more practical and my new VW Golf Estate arrived yesterday.

Cars have certainly moved on in the last 12 years! The dash on the VW looks like the bridge of the Starship Enterprise!

Very nice. I'm on my second Mk1 MX-5, I've also had coilovers (MeisterRs) fitted, along with a new exhaust, a load of other bits and a set of new tyres. I had Yoko Paradas on my last one, they were fantastic in the dry and hopeless in the wet. Sadly the new car (currently) has an open diff and I foolishly went for Michelin Pilot Sports, so while it stops miles better in the wet, it's nowhere near as much fun.

The fleet currently looks like this:

Fiat 500 1.2. 69bhp, just over a ton. Needs miles of run up to overtake, but great fun trying to keep your speed up.

MX-5 NA 1.8. Modified, although not yet engine work (can't decide between throttle bodies or turbo, should be around 180-200bhp after).

Subaru Forester. 250ish bhp, the Flying Fridge.

Austin-Healey. About 170bhp, virtually everything modified and uprated - engine, gearbox, bodywork (more aluminium/less steel), steering, brakes, wheels...

MGB GT (in bits). Again, modified with 130bhp, five-speed 'box etc.

Lame joke. I noticed the paper floormat and it reminded me of the numerous 'AD removed the stickers off my Rolex' threads. Hope you enjoy the car, a friend had one for quite a few years and was very happy with it.

No pics but currently in a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (2016). Great motor. Previously had the 5.7HEMI V8 here in Dubai, went like a rocket and gave the AMG Mercs a run for their money!

Previously an Audi man: A3, A4 x2, TT, Q5. Then Land Rovers for a phase; Defender, Freelander and Range Rover. The Jeep is a great motor..
