    One-off watch shipment to Scandanavia

Who to use and at what approximate cost for a value of £8,000? Ideas much appreciated.

Think you can use Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed® and pay for up to 10k gbp insurance.

    No, only up to £2.5k

Out of the 'big' couriers, the only ones I've found that will insure jewelry/watches are DHL, but they too are limited at £4k

    Weekend road trip?

For that value I'd ask the buyer to pony up £50 for a flight over and deliver it myself, I think.

You can send DHL, FedEx, UPS or RMSD when using a third party insurer like ParcelPro.

Isn't the £2.5k limit only in UK, abroad just £500 or something like that?

For RMSD, I think so. But the Royal Mail website also gives you a Parcelforce option if you want more insurance, up to £2.5k. Not entirely sure if it covers watches though

    Parcelforce don't insure watches!

For a one-off you could try Mail Boxes Etc. Expect to pay 2%-3% of declared value.

Ok. Took this from their website but might have misunderstood it. Good luck with the sale!.

"Both services give you the option to increase your cover up to the value of £2,500. You can also purchase tiered consequential loss cover up to the value of £10,000."

But watch out: anything worth more than £2,500 is not insured at all.

Parcelforce compensation does not cover watches at all.

You'll almost certainly need compensation/insurance separate to the courier.

Courier suggestions: Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed with basic compensation. Or Parcelforce with basic compensation. I specify basic compensation since the compensation is irrelevant and worthless for a watch of this value.

Compensation/insurance providers: ParcelPro (now business only if you do not already have an account), Transit2Insure (business customers only), www.ifs-inforsure.com (founded by Jeroenusa of this forum who used to work for ParcelPro, but see clause 10.1 in their Ts&Cs), or Mailboxes Etc.

Probably the simplest one is Mailboxes Etc., www.mbe.co.uk. With them you take the item to one of their shops and send it from there. You select one of their partner couriers and MBE provides compensation/insurance. You may need to pack the item at the shop.

(Fedex does not cover watches and most other couriers have very low limits on compensation for watches).

mbe.co.uk looks like a useful firm....I've asked the question about insurance on the back of my query last week! :)

I think DHL will do it for £15 per £1000 insured for the insurance plus the postage cost.

I tried them this week and they quoted 4% of insured value, as I was looking to potentially send something for a service.

MBE are excellent. I used them over quite a long period, and actually claimed for a watch that went astray in the post. They self-insure and the claim process was quite simple, with payment received a week or so later.

Depends which country it's going to. Some are in the EU so no duty will be payable.

According to this, https://parcel.dhl.co.uk/what-you-can-and-cant-send, maximum shipment value for watches is £4000.

Thanks, that's very useful to know.
