Sorry for the newbie question but what was the issue with the current hands?

Dear Eddie, I've just received the announcement that the Smiths Everest 36mm black dial with "rivet" bracelet is back in stock.
My question is if this new batch will have also the minute and hour hands with "adjusted length".
Thanks in advance.

I am also looking forward to the adjusted handset. I understand it is personal preference, and lots of folks are super-happy with the current handset, but I find that the difference in length between the hour and minute hands is just a bit too much for me.
Eagerly waiting when the store opens on Sunday.
Here is my current one:
Well I'm pretty excited for Sunday.
Eddie - are the clasps for this batch etched with the block-letter Smiths logo or the crown Smiths logo?
How long is a batch available normally? I'm really interested in this watch, but at the same time I'd like to think about it a few days. Is it like some micro brands that they will be gone on the first day and you'll have to wait another 6 months for the next batch or are they going to be easily available for the next time?
There is pent up demand for the black dial 36mm and the Everest.
Not knowing how many of each Eddie ordered, I still suspect that these are going to fly off the shelves.
It may not exactly be Hodinkee-fuelled FOMO but...
Eddie will probably take as many orders as he can realistically fulfill, then the store will close.
If you are lucky and there is remaining stock on the item you want, you can try for it next time the store opens.
If are you not lucky, everything you want will sell out and then you will have to wait another 3-6 months to try again when Eddie gets in more stock.
If you want something badly enough, don't wait around.
Hi Eddie, were the black 36mm PRS25s delivered with the adjusted hand length as expected?
And which logo is on the bracelet clasp, out of interest?
Thanks
If I order next time the shop opens, will I get automatically from this last batch with the adjusted hand lenghts? Can't wait to get my grubby paws on one of those...
Are there likely to be any spare sets of the new hands available to buy separately ?
Deleted. No longer relevant.

Eddie
Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
And still no more pics of the black face with new handset. Apart from that single picture I’m starting to think it’s a unicorn!
I posted mine a couple times. Took a new one this morning.
Thanks Sier. That’s the money shot! 👍
Now all gone. More on order but they won't be here for 3 months.

A quick photo of my new arrival. I’ve not had chance to resize the OEM bracelet yet, just thrown on a spare that I have.
Not the most helpful angle for viewing the hands but:
Thanks Colin, very helpful. The longer hour hand definitely looks better to me, but I’m still not entirely sure on the ‘stem’ of it being thinner than the minute hand. All a bit of an idle thought exercise at present anyway as Eddie’s out of stock (unless my WTB comes up trumps!)!

Good point Colin! I’d never actually noticed it on the Rolex and wonder if I’d have even noticed it on the Everest if someone else hadn’t drawn attention to it?!
Hello All,
I’ve just received my PRS 25 in black which is fantastic but I wanted to ask if anyone is having problems hacking the movement.
When I’ve unscrewed the crown it is extremely hard to move to the second position I have to get my nails behind it and break them to set the time, it seems unlike any other movement and will it ease over time or is it faulty?
Thanks in advance.
Not really. In Explorer the hour hand is proportional to the minute hand even if the "stem" is thinner (anyway it should be thinner!). In Everest "mercedes" is too small for such a thick minute hand, so this is not a matter of a proper size of one element but the relationship between all of them (also the counterweight of the minute hand seems too short). Everest's hands are out of proportion but it is still a lovelly watch.
No matter how long I stare at this I can't get it get it to mean anything. Two objects of different sizes always have a proportional relationship, and this is as true of the Everest's two hands as it is of the Explorer's.
If you wish to say that the Explorer's proportions are "right" and the Everest's are "wrong" is to place your opinion above EP's. While you're always welcome to think highly if your own opinion, EP's own forum is curious choice of venue for saying it out loud.
To drift a little from the point, it seems to me that what one knows first will dictate what subsequently seems correct. I knew of the old 1st generation 40mm acrylic crystal Everest long before I clapped eyes on the ancient Explorers, and so to me the old Rolex and the recent Smiths look equally "wrong".
Mmm, perfect
Don't worry and take your time. Maybe it will help:

You are absolutely right. I would like to edit my previous post, but I don't know how. I'll do it below:
Everest is a lovely watch.

Can't believe Eddie went through the whole batch in this last store opening. The popularity of the Everest is so high right now, and rightly so because it is such a classic watch. The next batch won't be in until at least August, which means that when they come up on Ebay we are going to see some big numbers.
Well as my WTB came up trumps (thanks frp422!) I'm wearing my new arrival Everest.
Whilst I was more pleasantly surprised by the bracelet in person (not a fan of the riveted look, although it's more subtle in reality than pictures), I'd always planned to stick this on a strap. So I thought I'd post up a few pics of it on two different single pass elastic straps I have:
What do you think, plain black or bond stripe? If this turns out to be a keeper then I'll probably invest in a Crown &Buckle chevron strap (but at £40+ including customs to get it from the US, I want to make sure the watch it's going on isn't going to be flipped soon!).
My other concern I voiced earlier in the thread about the minute hand thickness compared to the hour hand 'stem' is a complete non-issue in reality and you don't even notice it unless you're specifically looking for it. Whilst i'm not sure if it'll stay around in my collection, Eddie's nailed it IMO with this 2nd edition and the quality is as good as the 1st version I owned, but the change to the hands and the movement just round out the package perfectly. Overall build too and size is spot on as well, an absolute bargain for what he's asking!
Both straps look very good on the watch, imho, and I would just keep switching after my mood and clothing. If it has to be one, all black is more versatile.
