New pick up: Gold IWC Portuguese automatic

Decided to go a bit left field (for me anyways) and pick up something other than Rolex, I’ve given up trying to chase for the list models and being messed around by dealers so was quite refreshing to pick a watch and get it! I used to have this watch in stainless steel 5 years ago and really missed it when I moved it on so am glad to have it back in the collection, albeit in gold this time around. Don’t see many pictures of these of the forum so thought I post a few. The strap is non standard IWC and doesn’t quite fit well so will be picking up a Jacob strap (thanks for the forum recommendation) in a more subtle blue. For the time being though really enjoying this watch, the gold gives it a nice bit of weight. And yes it’s big, but for me I think it’s fine (although opinions of this will differ so please keep to yourself if they do), and is quite comfortable. Anyways, if there are any other IWC automatic owners out there please feel free to post your pics too.

    Cheers
    Mike

Congratulations Micheal on your 8 day! Any solid gold cased watch makes a watch special IMHO. I believe IWC have recently upgraded the movements on these so you have super high spec movement in there. I think double barred palot mechanism (sorry if that is the wrong term). I like that colour combination.

Sometime I hope to add the Chrono with blued hands at some point. I tried this on last year... it is now on the list.... and I agree it's refreshing to chose a watch, either buy online or in a shop. Job done!!

You’re right on the upgrades, but this model has the older movement. Not too fussed as I had the same movement when I had this watch in SS 5 years ago and had no issues with it. Yes, the gold just adds a little something and am loving it.

The white dial and blue hands of that Chrono is lovely...I tried the 7 day auto with that configuration in the boutique a few weeks back and it looked great.

That looks great in gold, can't remember ever seeing one in gold before. What is it, 18ct? Congrats.

I currently have a thing for blue croc straps. The gold case with blue strap looks amazing

Congratulations, looks good. I've always liked these, but my wrist is too small sadly.

It wouldn’t have been my first choice, but it’s the strap that came with it so when I order one my size will stick with blue as it pairs nicely with the gold, although might get a more subtle blue.

Lovely piece Mike and not something you see too often. 18ct watches can be quite a bargain when compared with the Steel ‘Rolex madness’.

I think the strap is not properly fitted at the clasp

It's a lovely piece; gold does seem to suit it.

    My relatively mundane version

Great pics, and I do love that dial and hand colour combo. I tried that model on at the boutique a few weeks back and it looked pretty good.
