Very interesting - seems too good to be true...?

Does nothing to excite me at all.
So apart from the co-axial movement and some minor cosmetic, nothing else? Good way for Omega to jack up prices then.
The next moon watch will be Chinese
Co-axial seems inevitable - why they kept the 1861 for so long seems a bit of a mistery. Of course price will be jacked by £2K.
Time to update this page? http://www.speedywatches.com/referen...ion/movements/
Then again my Apollo 8 DSOTM has the 1861 based manual movement but still cost the same as the coaxial DSOTM - so it’s all marketing really.

Any info about release dates?

Is it an auto version or handwound?
I presume this makes it thicker (even thicker) than the original?
Handwound and sapphire is thinner than the original at 13.18mm vs >14mm. Hesalite is 13.58mm. Looks good overall :)
Sounds very hopeful...and no ceramic bezel. They’ve honoured the history. I was fancying a 321, but this looks a good alternative.
Interesting that they change the movement entirely but choose not to re-evaluate the WR. Still 5 Bar.
I suppose it keeps it from stepping on the toes of the Seamaster chronos.
D
PS - It was inevitable, but the demise of the Speedie's Lemania-derived movement seems a shame, although I guess they have re-introduced a 321.
I do like that but would prefer applied marker on hesalite. Wonder what this will do to the price of 1970ish speedys with 861 and stepped dial and not forgetting the second hand price of dot over 90 inserts.
Were I in the market for a new moon watch, I'd be happy that.
The new coaxial movement is a good upgrade, and leave well enough alone. Sounds like a winning formula to me.
I’ll be a happy man if that’s correct. Best bits of my 9300 based speedy in a smaller size.
Does this mean we can buy the don bezel and stick it on our vintage🤪 version
I read about this earlier, interesting to see they've now gone with "human space missions" on the case back, as if a non-human would need a manually wound chronograph anyway?! More intrigued to see how the tapering bracelet looks, I have the current version and just don't get on with the bracelet at all.
Ant
Bracelet looks better. I had mine on it for an hour or 2 after I got it home and it’s been on a nato since.

I guess ‘manned’ is sexist considering they are planning on sending a woman to the moon in 2024, hence the new wording?
the wrt - Probably pure marketing - the wrt category probably determined by marketing department not the technical design department. Like you say - don't want to step into Seamaster territory. I think there was a thead on this a while back on this topic. Anyway 50m / 5bar is ok for swimming?
I really like it. But I feel that the subdials are missing the texture the 1861 versions had.
I like the new pushers, bracelet and stepped dial.
The DON bezel is also welcome not that anyone will notice!
The chrono seconds hand is also closer to the vintage versions....
So a nice watch overall if you ask me. More vintage inspiration on the outside, more modern on the inside!

Yes 50m is okay for swimming (depending on the company's literature - I cannot find recommendations on Omega's site), but on a manual wind watch it is much more prone to wear (the crown seal) than on an auto, as it is given 20-30 rotations every day. So the 50m WR becomes a lot more precarious over time, and prompt regular servicing is the only way to ensure it.
Movement service intervals are generally increasing (no metion in the OP link specification, but the warranty is 5 years) but if you get one of these wet rgularly, it is likely that seal maintenance is more likely to be the limiting factors in the service interval.
Omega themselves suggest that even for swimming, seals are checked every year.

It is quite the price bump.

OP how did you get this info? Looks fairly legit to me. I guess it could be a “cut and shut” spec sheet using the technical data from some of the recent Buzz’s Bum, Snoopy etc.
Price aside, I quite like the look of this! Thanks for sharing.

Me neither! Surprised they’ve developed a co- axial variant of the 1861 hand- wound movement. Classic case of solving a problem that doesn’t exist. The sapphire crystal that looks like acrylic is (arguably) a step forward but that’s about all it has going for it in my opinion. No doubt the latter- day Omega fanboys will love it, but I’d much a nice older version (ca 2000-2012) plus a supply of fine wet n dry paper and metal polish to refinish the crystal when required.
This will kill the moonwatch.
Don’t think it will. The majority of punters like the marketing and NASA association more than the authenticity. We are watch lovers, but I suspect your average moon watch consumer will just buy into whatever the Omega publicity machine generates.

But I agree with you from WIS point of view.

Can anyone share about the sound of the 3861 vs the 1861? I like to wear my watches during sleep and I hear the gentle ticking/chime of the Rolex whilst my Seiko diver is almost silent. I did have a 1873-based Heuer (based off the lemania which powers the moon watch) which was very audible ticking so I imagine the 1861 moon watch to be similar? Would the newer 3861 co-axial be closer to Rolex/Seiko quiet?
Surely to be a moonwatch it needs to be either
105.003 or 105.012 or 145.012
Watches that are perhaps the most direct decendants of the moonwatch would be 145.022, 145.0022, maybe 3590.50
More recent models are derivatives that look the same. Just IMHO of course.
One things for sure on crono24 and the 1000's of these normally now has gone down to handfull in the UK so just about no stock left anywhere.
with a price increase and the new "Human" writing, I can see if you pay £4k for a "manned" one now it should look after your pocket.
crono24 have just 3 watch's left from 2019/2020 !!! to buy one private, 2 dealer !!
the new ones going to be what >£5k makes the current 1861 "manned " watch the one to buy imho if you wanted a moon watch , now's the time to buy one.
