Still desperate for a centre midfielder at Liverpool .

Elliot is seeing too many minutes and in reality should have been phased in this season. We are very lightweight across the middle of the pitch.

Still shouldn’t have lost that game though we had nearly 80% of the possession, more shots, corners etc but still managed to lose.

Was VVD injured or was he subbed off for tactical reasons?

Bees fans are feeling pretty chipper at the moment. More so than LFC fans tonight, anyway! 😁😁

They look disjointed and void of ideas. The number of times they just lumped the ball into the box last night was crazy. I can't stand Klopp, absolute buffoon.

a midfield 3 containing 2 of elliot & thiago is too lightweight for the PL. Unless we address that the defence will continue to be exposed.

Small steps...but for the first time in a few years, Im reasonably confident, that Man. United could make it into the top 4...

Light at the end of a long tunnel hopefully!

Saying that! its bee a mad season so far, its not even half way through yet though! Predictions for top four places have never been as open as this for years!

A win tonight against Bournemouth, and a draw (or god forbid!) a win against City...and I will be a very happy bunny!!

I've said from his appointment that ETH will be excellent for Man Utd. For the first time in several years I can see a plan and a style of play. Once he gets his players in they'll be challenging for top four and trophies again.

He’s doing everything right except putting the ball in the onion bag. He’s making the right runs and getting into the right positions and his manager would be more worried if he wasn’t. The goals will come. He looks a handful to play against.

Should be a cracking match tonight between Arsenal and Newcastle. Both clubs superbly coached and significantly overachieving this year and ahead of schedule with their respective plans. Looking forward to it.

The fact he's still getting so many chances is telling. He hasn't stopped doing those things right.
He was never going to win the "Haaland vs Nunez" battle that the media was concocting at the start of the season, but he looks like he could/should get 15-20 league goals a season no problem.

To be fair Nunez had a 1 in 2 scoring rate with Benfica in an inferior league to Haaland who scored something like a goal a game for Dortmund in the Bundesliga so probably that would have been a good yardstick.

    Woah, calm down there.

Which player had the better goal scoring record before the summer transfer window?

Of course no one KNEW. But the direct rivalry was concocted by the media - and that’s slightly unfair to Nunez. The fact he hasn’t scored as many as Haaland isn’t an appropriate way to judge a player is all I’’m saying.

    Maybe you disagree. Very strongly.

Hey !! I'm calm I can assure you...
It was you who wrote "He was never going to win the "Haaland vs Nunez" battle that the media was concocting at the start of the season" and in having done so, I assumed you'd been caught up in the media hype or that you actually did know.
My question was how could you have possibly known at that time ? You couldn't.........so I'm guessing the media hype had you believing so.
Would that be a fair assumption to make ? I think so.

Of course I don’t have a time machine, and couldn’t know for certain. The phrase isn’t meant to be taken quite so literally though. Maybe it would be better if I had said
“He hasn’t been that bad so far, and is only regarded as a flop so far because he is so often compared to Haaland, which is irrelevant and also possibly unfair”. Is that better?

I expected Haaland to score many more goals (note: I didn’t know. Of course, I could not know). I expected this because I did not believe the hype of a ‘battle’ between the two.

I’m really not sure why you are so hung up on this point, so I’ll leave it.

I just turned it on after kick off and saw who the referee was .
There are some bad ones out there but this fella is absolutely stealing a living .
His performance at City v Everton bordered on farcical, if not corrupt.
He just booked Joelinton for winning the ball fairly .

Terrible Ref - so inconsistent allowing loads of time wasting.

This is the perfect example of lack of squad depth I was talking about in my previous posts no one on the bench to change it up and as Newcastle bedded in and we became leggy a goal is less and less likely.

2 pens turned down for Arsenal though - 1 blatant against Gabriel. Newcastle very resilient and compact so probably deserved the point.

In games like this Arteta did the right thing he set the team up to “finish them early” ( to coin a boxing term) and then control the match.

The issue is as plan A didn’t work because we didn’t take our chances there isn’t a viable plan B to be deployed (eg previously it was bring on Giroud and cross it - lol )

With Smith - Rowe hopefully on the mend and perhaps a couple new players we could maintain the charge.

Absolutely outstanding performance from us tonight. That month Eddie spent with Simeone has certainly paid off. We know how to play each opponent home and away. Tactically Howe is fantastic. The ref tried his very best to ruin the game though, he even got three decisions wrong in one tackle!

Some absolute Pep-isms from Arteta in his interview. The 2 turned down penalties were 'scandalous' but he is 'so proud' of his team and how they played, all declared in an incredibly agitated voice! Pep 2.0!

Thought Newcastle defended excellently tonight. They doubled up on Martinelli and Saka dutifully, they all worked really hard to negate Arsenal threat. Even so there were still chances for Arsenal, in particular a good save by Pope from a sharp Nketiah shot. Newcastle came with a plan they executed almost to perfection, with a lot of help from the ref. The Burn shirt-pull on Gabriel in the box was a stone-cold penalty. The fact VAR failed to even request the referee make a check is really poor.

We now move on to Spurs and United, a derby and a team in red-hot form. Hopefully we can still maintain a decent gap into February when we face City, keep this 'title race' interesting for as long as possible! Still think Top 4 is the goal and with teams like Toon, then United and Spurs still in touching distance, plus a decent run from Chelsea, we could still be under threat there. Lots of points still to play for.

As a proud Newcastle fan, I almost can't watch. This is the closest we've been to greatness since the Keegan era and we all know how that turned out..... but today's match was as good as I could have hoped for and I'm starting to believe that we might just be playing Champions League football next season.

Fingers and toes all firmly crossed.
