You hit the nail on the head there, it was mainly the length of the back of the jacket. The gamekeeper is quite a bit longer which is great for when sitting on rough ground while I knock up some bacon sarnies etc😁 One other thing that swayed me was the under arm zipped vents on the Gamekeeper. I have these on one of my Mountain Equipment jackets and use them quite a bit. The lining isn't exactly what I was after but (wanted more of a quilted lining) but it's a compromise I can put up with for the other benefits.

A good jacket like a good lawyer should cover your butt.

    Warm waterproof winter jacket?

That would’ve been my suggestion, nip to the nearest gun shop and have a look at their jackets

hah hence the ''good'', I can't take credit iirc it's a Jack Reacher aphorism.

    Anyone's thoughts on Finisterre?

In particular looking at their Vellus parka.

I’ve got one of their waterproof jackets which seems good quality. The only things on it I’d prefer is the hanger to be on the inside rather than the outer neck and the zip to be 2 way. But in terms of doing the job it has been good. Then again we got it very cheap in one of their sales.

I have brought some of their other clothing and it is lasting well. Plus they offer a repair service as well which could be helpful in the future.

I've been interested in their waterproofs but can't justify buying one as my fifteen year old Berghaus is still going strong.
