Thanks for the heads-up - will be interested to watch that.
Good article on the BBC news app too - Exposing violent watch thieves and their young women 'spotters' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67608184
The BBC3 programme link - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001t575
Long sleeves and Casios look good London attire now!

Ignorance breeds Fear. Fear breeds Hatred. Hatred breeds Ignorance. Break the chain.
It might be nice to see M "Big Dog" again in episode 1 of the next series of The Met.
Going to watch this tomorrow.
Saw a clip on the BBC Website

Thanks for posting. I am sure it will give me even less reasons to wear a real watch in London, but shall watch nonetheless.
Given that the BBC were able to track down and interview the heavily armed gang boss and his associates several times, I can’t help wondering why the police haven’t managed to yet. I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are working on it.
That was surprisingly dull. Felt like 10 minutes worth of material stretched to a half hour slot with lots of spurious added drama. Rival gang appear on mopeds - off camera.
Its made the BBC 6 pm news !
I am actually shocked watching this program. I am genuinely disheartened and saddened to see and hear the way these thieves are talking.

I can see how an expensive watch would be a target. A watch that might be worth £20000 must only be worth a fraction of that when it becomes stolen and has to be fenced on the black market. I would be interested to know what these criminals are actually making on a watch as a proportion of its legitimate value.
It does make me grateful that I live in the backwaters of St Helens. I don’t have any anxiety about choosing a nice watch for an evening out.

Who are the people buying these watches?
Everyone in the chain from the spotter to the buyer should get the same heavy sentance, but I expect no one will any real punishment.
If it wasnt watches they would be stealing something else becasue the world owes them a living and its not their fault.
Seemed to be overwhelmingly Rolex sport models they were targeting. I'll be sticking with my quartz Seiko for the forseeable.
Just watching it now. Can't work out if I'm a lion or a bitch. Or something. Very 'bbc free' innit.
Reading the article advertising its own program on the BBC, it said stolen watches were going to Paris, Romania and Dubai. Really?
Anyway, good to know it's mainly high-wealth targets in fancy restaurants and clubs located in conspicuously wealthy areas of London.
Almost seems like karma helping to restore the balance
EDIT: I should add, I don't condone the behaviour of the nasty little scrotes committing the crimes. Thanks.

Spotting watches in restaurants when the most careful person is at their ease and then targeting them in the street, the punishment needs to be an effective deterrent, say 25 years minimum or maybe the Saudi way.
I was in the west end on Friday, it was rammed, you would never see it coming however strong you were
Pretty poor making all the bad guys sound like Frank Bruno.
Anybody going to sexy fish with anything more than a Tudor is asking for trouble.
Hate the scum, had to laugh billy big bollocks until an off camera team on scooters showed then shite himself didn’t want robbing ???? 25years min for knife or gun carrying full term
It was a pretty crap production but interesting to see how rife this particular crime is. I’ve been watching loads of episodes of The Met and together it just demonstrates what an utter cesspit London is.
Watched
What was interesting was the first person interviewed claimed to be the attacker of Aled Jones which was odd as he was caught and sentenced? I suppose it could be him ?.

Re the areas they hunt and upmarket restaurants etc as I understand the spotters are often the restaurant staff who have plenty of time to assess what your wearing watch and clothes then go into kitchen and text your description and watch to robbers waiting outside they then text to alert as you exit.
Then theres the Uber that picks you up pissed at 1.00am from Christmas do who knows they are taking you home has address and texts a team mate to be at house waiting for you to get out of taxi.
The dude interviewed said one thing that brings it home “your walking around with 20k cash on your wrist”
If I win the lottery I will make a documentary like that.
3 numbers should do it !

Are sure you’’d need that much?

Probably not, if you already have an iPhone.
It did make me glad that i haven’t got anything especially valuable or desirable, to be honest. And I wholeheartedly agree that these swine should (as armed robbers should generally) get some proper time. And I say that as a liberal.
I haven’t watched it yet.
Any actual proof these characters are actually doing what they say rather than just acting the big man for the journalists?
Did they show a stash of stolen watches or any actual proof of activity?
OLT's stupid comment reminds me of the scrote on the news last night who stole Aled Jones' watch. He tried to justify himself by saying AJ is a rich celebrity with probably another ten in his safe so it didn't hurt him. No, you are a thieving little bag of pus who put another human being through a frightening ordeal to satisfy your own greed and feelings of inadequacy, no justification is possible.
It was an awful production.
It was an eye opener for me on how low these lowlifes actually are - they seem to justify that what they are doing is OK because the people they rob and mentally scar for life have more watches and are better off than them?!?
